On 4th November, an awareness program to save the environment was held under the direction of Lopon Samdrup. It was a joint effort by Korea Green Foundation and The Small Earth Nepal along with Thrangu Environmental Club.
The motto of the program was "Communicating Climate Change."
The Small Earth Nepal representatives came to address the program. Member Mr. Nirajan Bista encouraged every individual to take responsibility for protecting the environment. The vice-president, Mr. Shudarshan said he was very happy that he did not see any plastic garbage on the monastery premises.
Lopon Samdrup addressed climate change and what we can do to keep our environment green and clean. Everyone was given a small reusable cloth bag to minimize the use of plastic bags. All the monks were encouraged to stop using plastic bags and cups.
A big signboard with information regarding climate change; its impacts and solutions and information has been written in three languages; English, Nepali and Tibetan was hung at the entrance of the monastery. It is said that its purpose is to raise visitors' awareness so that they will act protect the environment in their lives. This will gradually help to save our mother earth.
One of our branch monasteries, Thrangu Tashi Chophel Ling, Tatopaani, organized a four day annual puja from October 2-5, which falls on Dashain, the major festival of Hindus in Nepal. A group of 12 monks along with a lama were invited from the main monastery to perform the puja.
The puja is especially dedicated to those animals sacrificed during the festival. The monks performed Mahakala puja, Amitabha puja (Hoechog) and recited 12 volumes sutras, aspiration prayers, and long life prayers. On the last day of the puja, Ven. Karma Phurbu gave a general teaching about Buddhism and its importance in life.
All accommodations, foods and lodging are arranged and sponsored by local devotees every year. This time, Tashi Phuntsok Sherpa, U.S.A. sponsored transportation.
The program was very successful. The merit was dedicated to all sentient deceased beings. May all the deceased rest in peace and be reborn in a pure land, and may all living beings have good, peaceful and long lives with great practice of dharma.
